EU Good Governance Promotion Inside and Beyond Its Borders -EUGOGOV is co-funded by the European Union as a Jean Monnet module for the following three years starting in 2018. Out of the 1227 applications, 122 have been selected for funding for this action in 2018. This module will be available both in the undergraduate and post-graduate curricula of the Department of Political Science. It brings together scholars from different universities and aims to expand and disseminate knowledge on theories, mechanisms, and outcomes of EU’s policies to promote good governance inside and beyond its borders. Promoting good governance in public and private realms and in various policy sectors has become a way for the EU to fight against corruption in wider Europe’ and around the globe.

The notion of ‘good governance’ in the EU context first became prominent through the release of the Commission’s White Paper in 2001 on ‘European Governance’ in which it lists several principles underpinning ‘good governance’, such as openness and transparency, accountability, participation and effectiveness. The European integration managed to create a strong EU anti-corruption regime that encompasses law instruments, treaty provisions, and directives.

This module with its up-to-date courses and seminars will address the theoretical and empirical question of how the EU has developed an anti-corruption approach in its policy-making to promote good governance principles inside and beyond its borders and enable students of political science to catch up with new research areas and recent literature in the European studies. Besides teaching, designed for undergraduate and graduate students at AltınbaÅŸ University, the module will bring together graduate students, faculty members and policy-makers in various workshops and facilitate an exposure to new ideas, interdisciplinary methodologies, and research networks. Last but not least roundtable debates will be organized throughout the module geared towards specialized NGOs, public bodies, think-tanks and academics as well as the general public.
