Digdem Soyaltın Colella

Module Lead

She is an Assistant Professor at Department of Political Science and Manager of Energy and Environment Research Centre at Altınbaş University. She is also a board member at Transparency International Turkey and the managing editor of Research Turkey-a London based research center. Previously she has worked as a post-doctoral fellow at Stockholm University Institute of Turkish Studies (SUITS) and a consultant in projects conducted by Council of Europe and European Union on anti-corruption policies and judicial sector reforms in Turkey. She has received her Ph.D. from the Department of Political Science at Freie Universität Berlin and worked as a research fellow at the Research College on Transformative Power of Europe (KFG) during her Ph.D. studies. She holds a Master of Science in European Affairs from Lund University and Master of Philosophy in Political Science from Central European University in Budapest. She studied International Relations and European Politics for her Bachelor degree in Turkey. Her main research interests are Europeanization and domestic change, public policy and governance, Turkish politics and more specific policies of the fight against corruption. Her recent book Europeanisation, Corruption and Good Governance in the Public Sector: The case of Turkey, examines the role of external actors, especially the EU, in the promoting good governance and fight against corruption in Turkey (Routledge 2017).

Aslı Yılmaz Uçar

Academic Coordinator

She is an associate professor in Public Administration at AU. Uçar after having completed the undergraduate degree in Political Science and Public Administration Department at METU in 2005, she enrolled in the integrated doctoral program in administrative sciences at Ankara University. She earned her Ph.D. in 2012. During her Ph.D., she worked as a research assistant at METU between 2007 – 2013 and then she was employed at Özyeğin University as a project development specialist. She has been working as a faculty member at Altınbaş University since 2013. Her research interest areas are (1) the political economy of administration and (2) history of administration and local governments. In thesis study, central planning process and its institutional structure in its historical and social dimensions were tried to be analyzed; and in the post-doctoral studies, she focuses on the local government history especially in the Early Republican period in Turkey

Eylem Akdeniz Göker

Academic Project Assistant

She is an assistant professor of Political Science at Altınbaş University, Turkey. She received her BA and MA degrees in Political Science from Middle East Technical University (METU) and finished her PhD in Political Science at Bilkent University. She was a participant of the Yad Vashem Holocaust Studies program in 2014 in Jerusalem, Israel. She is mainly interested in topics related to Turkish politics, ethnicity and migration studies, diaspora studies and sociology of opinion producers. Her ongoing research involves Syrian Circassians and the historical “Manyas Exile” of Circassians in the early Republican era

Adil Usturalı

Administrative Project Assistant

He received his PhD at Bogazici University, Department of Political Science and International Relations and works as s a lecturer at Altınbaş University. He has  BA degree from Dokuz Eylul University in Turkey and MA degree from Uppsala University in Sweden. Between 2015 and 2016, he studied at Yale University in USA as a Yale Fox fellow. For his master’s research, he explored “Deliberative and Agonistic Theories of Democracy and their Moral Theories”, and for his doctoral dissertation he focuses on the definition of secularism as a political principle and its legitimation in the public sphere. His main interests include contemporary democratic theories and Turkish politics.

Gülay Şen

Administrative Project Manager

She is a Project specialist at Innovation and Research Projects Department in Altınbas University.  She has graduated from Department of International Relations in 2016 and has been working since her graduation from Altınbaş University. She is responsible for the coordination/management of EU, Start-Up and Entrepreneurship Projects. Currently studying her master degree in the field of Women Entrepreneurship.

Didem Buhari Gulmez

External Assessor

She works as an associate professor at  Izmir Katip çelebi University. She was previously a postdoctoral TUBITAK visiting fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science. She taught at Oxford Brookes University and the University of London. Her main research interests are Turkish politics and society, Europeanization, and globalization. Some of her publications are: (2017) Europeanization in a Global Context: Integrating Turkey into the World Polity, Palgrave Macmillan; (2016) Global Culture: Consciousness and Connectivity (co-edited with R. Robertson) Ashgate; (2015) Europe and World Society, Routledge (co-edited with C. Rumford)
