POLS 448 EU & Good Governance
The course will be divided in three parts.
Part 1 will offer a brief introduction to good governance in the EU and corruption research. It will also present major theoretical approaches with regard to the theories and mechanisms of EU good governance promotion inside and beyond its borders: i) European integration via harmonization ii) External Europeanization via conditionality, iii) functional cooperation via ENP and iv) EU aid via development policy.
Part 2 will focus on specific countries and policy sectors to examine the impact of good governance and anti-corruption policies of the EU.
Part 3 will contextualize the EU’s policies of good governance in Turkey and to discuss how the EU good governance support (as mentioned in section 2) had an impact on i) Turkey’s public administration, ii) its anti-corruption policy and iii) different sectoral settings (environment, energy, and migration).
